Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our PDF tools and services
Absolutely. We built iHatePDF because we were fed up with sites that claimed to be "free" but then hit you with a subscription wall or watermarks. All our tools are free, forever, with no strings attached.
Not at all. We value your privacy. You can use all our tools instantly without ever having to sign up, log in, or provide an email address.
We handle PDFs, JPG, PNG, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and even Markdown and HTML. Basically, if it is a document you hate dealing with, we probably support it.
We recommend keeping files under 50MB for the smoothest browser-based experience. For larger files, processing might take a bit longer or depend on your computer's RAM.
Yes. Most processing happens right in your browser. For tools that require a server (like Word to PDF), your files are never saved to a disk or database and are wiped from memory immediately after conversion.
If you use our "Share PDF" feature to generate a QR code, the file is automatically and permanently deleted after exactly 2 minutes. We believe in extreme privacy for your documents.
Yes! After uploading multiple PDFs, you can drag and drop the thumbnails to arrange them in the exact order you want before hitting the Merge button.
Using our Split tool, you can select specific thumbnails or enter page ranges (e.g., 1, 5, 12-15) to create a new PDF containing only those pages.
It analyzes two versions of a PDF and highlights all differences—text changes, additions, and deletions—making it perfect for verifying contract updates or document revisions.
No. Our Unlock tool helps you remove the password requirement from a file you already know the password for. We do not support "cracking" secure encrypted files.
If a PDF is corrupted (won't open), our Repair tool attempts to rebuild the internal cross-reference table and stream structure to salvage your content.
Absolutely. The site is fully responsive. You can even process a file on your PC and use the "Share" QR code to instantly download it to your phone.
We recommend modern versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. These browsers have the best support for the local processing technologies we use.
